FAQ

  • Is there a place to store our things?
Each kayak has a dry bag to store your items. They are of decent size, but try to pack light and bring only the necessities to make your adventure comfortable and enjoyable.
  • What do you recommend we bring?
Suggested Items: Sunscreen, Sunglasses, Hat, Clothes you don’t mind getting wet, Towel & Clothes for after the journey (leave these in your car; they will likely get wet if you bring on the kayak), Comfortable Water/Beach Shoes, Drinks and Snacks (Alcohol Prohibited) and a Camera with a waterproof case for all the many, many magical moments you are going to want to capture.
  • Can we bring food and drinks?
You are welcome to bring snacks or a meal with you on your adventure. If you need a cooler, let us know when you arrive and we will grab one for you. We would like to note, we currently do not have ice or ice packs for the coolers. So, if you are in need, you will have to bring your own. There is a 7/11 right across the street from our location that has ice, if needed. We also offer a meal package with Remedy Eatery. You can read more about that on our Booking Page. No alcohol allowed. This is a booze free adventure, so please save the alcoholic refreshments for after. Please do not bring glass items of any kind.
  • What is the best time to go kayaking?
Late afternoons tend to get windy, so we suggest going in the morning. It is common to experience smooth, glassy waters in the early mornings, but you can expect slightly cooler temps in the early summer months.
  • What are some safety concerns?
The only two concerns we have for our participants’ safety is the risk of hypothermia and rough waters caused by a windy day. We have had a record-breaking winter following a record-breaking drought and filling up the lake to a record-breaking level. All of that insane amount of snow is rapidly melting and flowing into the lake bringing the temperature down to a cool 59°F. A temperature that increases the risk of hypothermia. Also, our kayaks do not handle choppy conditions well, like your standard kayak would. Because of their shape, they do not carve through the waves and tend to take on a lot of water if the conditions become wavy. For that reason, as a necessary precaution, we request that all participants wear their buckled life vests at all times when enjoying the kayaks and head back immediately when the weather/water begins to change. Other than those concerns, the Clear Kayak Experience is a very safe outdoor adventure.
  • Do I need to have kayaking experience?
Absolutely not! Our kayaks are incredibly easy to use and it doesn’t take much practice or skill to maneuver. A short instruction will be provided by one of our Ambassadors prior to launching to get you comfortable with the equipment.
  • Where are you located?
Our flagship location is located on the North Shore in the heart of Kings Beach, CA. This is where all of our renters are directed to go at this time. Our address is: 8612 N. Lake Boulevard It's a large green building with our Lifestyle Boutique in front (kayaks in the back) on the lakeside of N. Lake Boulevard at the Raccoon St. roundabout and right above the small parking lot for Raccoon Beach. We have another location on the North Shore in Incline Village, NV that is currently a meeting point/transportation hub for our tours and soon-to-be an additional rental location.
  • Where should we park?
We have a small paved parking lot, but during peak season, our lot does tend to fill up. We HIGHLY recommend carpooling with your group. You have a much better chance of finding parking for 1 car than multiples. We suggest visiting: https://northtahoebusiness.org/getting-here/ It has a map of the multiple free and public parking lots nearby. If these various lots are full when you arrive, the only other option is to find street parking. Kings Beach is home to one of the most popular beaches on the North Shore. Because of this, the parking lots tend to fill up quite early.
  • What are the travel times to get to your location?
Lake Tahoe is an ever-growing travel destination and with only 2-lane highways in the basin traffic can really build up. So, be sure to give yourself PLENTY of extra time to get to our location and find parking to avoid a late arrival. Be sure to use the various apps out there for accurate directions (like Google Maps) and traffic conditions in real time (like Waze) to avoid any issues. We also suggest visiting: https://northtahoebusiness.org/getting-here/ It is a helpful source for travel times to Kings Beach from the various surrounding areas. Kings Beach is home to one of the most popular beaches on the North Shore. Because of this, the roads become very congested. Please give yourself LOTS of extra time to travel to us and find parking. Kings Beach is a fun, little town to walk around and explore if you arrive early and have time to spare before your adventure. It is always better to be early than late. Remember, we have a VERY strict Cancellation and Late Arrival Policy and we WILL NOT make exceptions for late arrivals due to traffic conditions and/or parking difficulties. All adventurers are responsible for their own time; please respect ours.
  • Do you launch at Sand Harbor?
We do not. At this time we only launch at our location located right by the beach in Kings Beach, CA. But don't worry, this is a good thing!
  • Can we paddle to Sand Harbor or Secret Cove from Kings Beach, CA?
Unfortunately, those two places are 10+ miles from our launch spot and much too far to paddle in one of our kayaks. Fortunately, we have a real hidden gem a short paddle away from our launch location. It's our best kept secret.
  • We have small children; can they go on this adventure and do the kayaks fit 2 adults and 1 child?
Kiddos, 5 and up, are more than welcome to partake in this fun experience! But they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. Minors over 14 may ride solo. Also, our kayaks only seat up to two persons, so 2 adults and 1 child in one kayak is not permitted.
  • How will the rental go?
One of our Travel Ambassadors will meet you at our location with the equipment. They will check you in and get you set up with life vests and other accessories. Once that part is complete, you will be shown the equipment and instructed on how to use it, receive a safety briefing, be told what to expect during your rental, as well as, you will be given some expert guidance as to where you should explore during your adventure. After that, you will bring the kayaks down to the launch location and your rental begins. Hop in and set sail.
  • What is provided with the rental?
We provide: Life Vests, Safety Equipment, Dry Bags, Wireless Bluetooth Speakers, Snorkel Equipment, Waterproof Phone Cases and much more! *Note* Some accessories have been discontinued or we have taken a break from providing them due to COVID, but they will be available to purchase at our Beach Bungalow. Just ask one of our attendants upon checking in and they will set you up.
  • Where do we launch the kayaks/SUPs?
We are located right above a CA State Park Beach. We set you up with all of the equipment and attach a trolley to each of the kayaks/SUPs for you. You will then roll the kayaks/SUPs on down to the water via the boat launch that is strictly for non-motorized watercraft use. You will detach the trolleys, bring them with you and reattach when you return. You will be required to wheel the kayaks/SUPs on back to us when you have completed your adventure. You will get a little extra workout before and after your adventure transporting the equipment, so do be prepared! But the launch is a short walk from our location (about 30 yards) and the kayaks are much lighter than a standard kayak (under 40 pounds), so it is relatively easy! 99.9% of our adventurers do just fine! We have a very strict policy enforced by CA State Parks forbidding us from assisting our adventurers with transport.
  • Do you have recommendations on where we should go or are we on our own?
You are free to wander in any direction you desire, but our guides are very knowledgeable with the area and are always willing to share with you what there is to explore and how to get there. *Side Note: Every inch of Lake Tahoe is magnificent and has a view worth exploring.
  • Will I tire easily?
As with most any outdoor activity, be prepared for a workout! There will be a bit of necessary exertion of energy to get these kayaks/SUPs moving, but there is no need to hurry or travel far. Please don't overdo it! Take breaks when you feel the need and don't feel pressured to paddle a long distance. You will be floating in an entirely clear kayak in one of the most picturesque landscapes in the world; what’s the rush? Check out that view and just cruise or stop and float for a while; do whatever suits you, just as long as you have fun!
  • Is it easy to flip the kayaks?
No, it is not. The width and depth of the kayaks lessen your chances of capsizing. They are very stable and rather easy to get in and out of.
  • We have been calling & emailing, but haven't been able to reach anyone. What do we do?
Please just be patient and bear with us. We are incredibly understaffed and unfortunately, do not have full time office staff to answer all of your calls. We are receiving an overwhelming number of emails and calls daily. It will undoubtably take some time to respond to all emails and return each one of your calls, so we thank you for your understanding during this challenging time. This is a small business with a small number of amazing humans doing their absolute best to keep up with the higher than normal influx of visitors to this area and provide this magical experience to our lovely customers. We are among the many, many local businesses that have been deeply impacted by the increase in demand and strains on the workforce, so we ask you to please be patient and please be kind. Also, please refrain from sending multiple emails (especially to multiple departments for one concern). It only further delays our response time. We promise we will get back to you as quickly as possible.
  • I forgot to use my promo code. Can you apply it after?
Discounts cannot be applied after completing your reservation. We cannot go back and make adjustments to payments when forgetting to include promo code when checking out. Unfortunately, this causes issues with our payment processor, so we ask that you try to make sure to include one if you have one. If you forget, you can save it for a future rental (exclusions may apply depending on terms of discount code such as, expiration, etc.).. We hope you have so much fun that you want to come back (or maybe share the experience with a friend)!
  • How long do refunds take?
It takes our payment processor anywhere between 7-10 business days to process refunds on their end and the refund to finally return to your account. We know that this can sometimes not be ideal, but it is unfortunately out of control. We wish we could return funds sooner and we do our absolute best to process refunds on our end right away when we receive cancellations or have to cancel reservations due to wind or unforeseen circumstances. We would also like to note that, on occasion, when we are having to process an influx of cancellations and refunds at once (typically when the weather is not behaving and we have to cancel full days of rentals) it flags our account with our payment processor and can sometimes place refunds on hold. We do not get notified of this by this payment processor, so if it has been over 7-10 business days and you have not received your refund, PLEASE let us know. This will inform us of the issue and allow us to make contact with our payment processor to resolve said issue right away and avoid any further delays.

Tips & Tidbits

Lake Tahoe Turquoise Waters

Hydrate. We always recommend bringing your own cool, hydrating beverages.

Longer the rental, the better! 1-hr rentals are only for those not looking to do much exploring and do not have their hearts set on seeing the turquoise, secluded coves.

The kayaks can act as quite a reflector of the sun, so be sure not to forget to lather up on the sunscreen before and throughout your adventure. Hats are a great addition to your attire, as well.

Pets under 30 lbs. are now allowed on our clear kayak adventures (not SUPs), but the following rules apply:

*All pets must have all vaccinations

*Pets must wear life vest & leash at least 6ft long at all times (you must bring your own, as we do not provide these items)

*Pets must be accompanied by an adult (18+)

*Must be well behaved and have a towel or mat under their spot on the kayaks at all times (towels & mats not provided)

*There will be a $25 pet fee charged at the time of your rental.

Children must be at least 5 years old to participate in this adventure.  No exceptions.

Minors must be accompanied in the kayak at all times.

*There are some exceptions to this rule (school trips, kids’ camps, etc) and other written permissions apply.

Please be mindful of your surroundings.  We appreciate our participants’ contributions to the protection and conservation of this beautiful lake.  Pack it in, pack it out and Keep Tahoe Blue.

*If you are having trouble finding trash cans on your journey, please leave whatever it is in the kayak and one of our Travel Ambassadors will be happy to dispose of it.

ALL participants must complete our Kayak Rental Equipment Agreement, Waiver and Release of Liability form via our online form prior to your rental. If the waiver is not completed by all participants prior to your rental, those participants will NOT be able to go on this Clear Kayak Adventure.

Follow this link to complete, sign and submit the waiver:

Liability Waiver

*Be sure to send the link to the rest of your group, so they may complete the waiver prior to your adventure!

We will also need to take a copy of your Driver's License, so please be sure to bring that along with you at check-in.
